In this presentation we look at cyber risk management in a small business setting. First, by reviewing other small business risks, and recognizing how we treat those - Accept, Avoid, Mitigate, Share, we then return to look at those risk treatment strategies with respect to cyber threats in a small business setting.
Doors open at 8AM and the session is scheduled to start fro 830AM to 10AM. Breakfast will be served.
Magdalena (Medy) Dytuco, CPA, CGA, CFP
An experienced accountant, Medy has a solid background in finance, risk management, auditing, and systems automation. This includes building an MS-Access database for internal controls reporting and testing. Although her roots are in BC, she also lived in Calgary and Toronto, spending most of her career in the Airline and Energy industries working for companies that include Finning International & Fortis BC (on contract through Sunera Consulting), WestJet, Canadian Airlines, Enbridge, TransCanada (Pipelines), and Sunesis Consulting.
In the fall of 2011, after 16 years in Calgary, she yielded to the call of family, friends and warmer weather and returned home to Vancouver to help with her family's Life & Health Insurance business. Today, she spends most of her time as a Financial Coach as well as an Internal Controls (Sox) Consultant. Through all these years, Medy has also continually been involved in her professional community as a board volunteer for ISACA Calgary, CGA Vancouver TriCities/RidgeMeadows Chapters and the last three years, on the ISACA Vancouver Chapter Board.
Edward Pereira, CPA, CGA, CISM, CISA, CRISC
Edward operates Carmel Info-Risk Consulting, a specialty cyber security and privacy consulting practice that focuses on the design and implementation of cyber security and privacy programs for those small to medium-sized companies that can not afford to have their own expertise on staff. Edward is currently consulting in the financial services, property management, transportation, and mining industries.
Prior to Carmel Info-Risk, Edward was an Information Security Director for two different public companies, Intrawest, and Lululemon, and started their security functions from the ground up and led them towards PCI compliance.
In the mid 1990's, Ed was an early developer of e-commerce technology in Canada, participating in a pilot project with Royal Bank and Industry Canada. After three years of toil, Edward developed and sold a hotel booking engine service, MeetUP.com, for the meetings and conventions industry, leading him to a another stint in Southern California.
In recent years, in addition to his consulting practice, Edward has served several years with ISACA Vancouver, including one year as President and co-founded the BC AWARE Campaign, a public IT security awareness campaign for all of BC, now in its 4th year. Edward has also served on the Governing Body of the CISO Executive Summit, and is currently serving on a provincial cyber security advisory council. Edward has previously conducted speaking engagements for CPABC, IIA, ISACA and other professional organizations in Vancouver.
