Farshad is an innovative technologist, leader, and instructor with over 20 years of experience in software design and development, network and system architecture, management, and technical instruction. With a keen interest in security from the start, he has honed his expertise in that field throughout his career involving various roles at local and global organizations including Motorola and Intel.  He spent the last decade as a senior member of HSBC Group's IT and Information Security teams with the most recent positions being the Head of IT Security for the Canadian division, and the Principal Global Security Architect focusing on enterprise, application and cloud security. His technical expertise combined with business savvy as well as leadership and communication skills have enabled him to bridge the gap between technology and business, motivate and empower teams, and bring together the right people and processes to deliver results.

Farshad shares his knowledge and passion of computer security at BCIT where he has been an instructor for over 15 years, helping others build a career in this exciting field. He is also the CTO/CISO at Machool Technologies, CFAX Radio’s information security correspondent, and a board member of the Mainland Advanced Research Society (MARS) who produce the BSides Vancouver annual security conference as well as many other security related community events. Farshad is a University of British Columbia (UBC) Computer Science alumnus, and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designate.
